This is the Radio Ernstiwan-thread. The server stays the same, but is now reachable at:
radio.ernstchan.top
It is recommended to switch to this address for both listening and streaming, though the old xyz-domain is still supported from our side. But given what happened on the old chan we can't guarantee that the xyz-address will be kept available for us. Also all technical/festival announcements by radio staff will be made here from now on.
Everything else stays the same: The public stream can be used by everyone (see pic 4 for details), but if you stream regularly, an own account is recommended, write a mail to ernstiwan at protonmail.ch to get one. Include your desired user name and ideally (though optional) an avatar picture for the radio stats page. Reliable and production proven streaming software is butt:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/butt/ (lightweight and easy to use, but lacks some features like updating artist/title) and mixxx:
https://mixxx.org/ (can do it all, but setup is more complicated).
Also please remember that the radio recently switched from port 8000 to Port 80 (no SSL/TLS) and 443 (SSL/TLS mandatory).

The radio calendar is now integrated into the EC frontpage. If you announce your streams on
http://radio.ernstchan.top:8000/calendarlogin.php, they will show in the same spot whre live streams are shown. If there's a live stream ongoing, the display of announced streams is omitted. Additionally, announced streams only show if they start in the next 72h, and the display is limited to 3 streams. This has been done to prevent cluttering of the frontpage. Maybe some of those things will be changed, depending on the will of the commoners, and on what shows to work best.
Since the implementation relies on cronjob-powered data transfer/processing on both the radio and the EC server, it can take around 2-3 minutes until freshly entered streams are shown.

They released two albums, first this one and then a second one called "Enter, The Conquering Chicken".
Mia Zapata was raped and murdered during the production of the second album.
There are professional TV productions dedicated to this rape and murder.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZRWBvbdqtM&tChrissy Zebby Tembo & Ngozi Family - My Ancestors
Good album.
I listened to a Chrissy Zebby Tembo song for some reason (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bieUSyGomUs) and then spent a few hours listening to Zamrock.
Wikipedia says about Zamrock: "Zamrock is a musical genre that emerged and gained popularity in Zambia during the early 1970s.[1] It has been described as a fusion of traditional African music and psychedelic rock, garage rock, hard rock, blues and funk, taking influence from popular bands like Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer, the Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, and Cream."
Of course it's just a made-up genre to describe more rock oriented music from Zambia, but listen to a "best of Zamrock" doesn't hurt.
Baby Woodrose - Third Eye Surgery
Good album.
A somewhat psychedelic rock band for Denmark.
If Wikipedia doesn't lie, the band has released 11 albums, with the first album being a solo production by founder of the group.
There actually doesn't seem to be much more to say. Some albums where even the weaker ones are at least okay and they've been released over more than 10 years, but they never had any huge success.
An article on Vice that interviewed musicians who also have to work regularly also mentions the band Baby Woodrose.
Here is the link
https://www.vice.com/en/article/pp4dqm/we-talked-to-great-danish-bands-about-having-to-work-part-time-jobs-789But so that you don't have to go to the Vice page (who wants that anyway) I'll copy the interesting part:
"10 years ago we had some moderate success with Baby Woodrose and at that point we actually lived off our music for a few years," he says. "Denmark was a bit different back then because the main radio station was open to playing other music than mainstream pop. And the royalties from radio actually made it possible to make a living. We actually did quite well for a little bit."Since then, Lorenzen has been working at a Frederiksberg bar for 8 years.
Their last release has become the best selling vinyl record in Denmark of the past 20 years according to Guf. But he still must rely on extra employment to make ends meet. This is a man who has played shows of 14.000 in attendance with SN, and entertained even larger crowds with Baby Woodrose.
"The music business is up and down and things become quite commercialized when you reach a certain level. In order to make a living off your music, you have to start viewing your songs as a product, selling them for commercials and products, essentially turning it into a commodity. We didn't want to go down that path."

Beasts of Bourbon - Little Animals
Good album.
An Australian rock band with very strong blues influences, but I wouldn't apply the term "blues rock" to most of the songs.
Little Animals is the band's penultimate album from 2007 and can hardly be compared to the older works from the 80s and 90s, so I would recommend giving the older stuff a listen.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ka5ECVg9mmkBlood Ceremony - The Eldritch Dark
Good album.
A band from Canada.
If you read articles on various websites, you will always see comparisons with Jethro Tull and Black Sabbath and that describes the band very well.
The current singer originally started out here as a flautist and is now also a singer and organist.
I imagine that can be very stressfull when playing live.
Live:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ah8OWPSRhFQRose Windows - The Sun Dogs
Good album.
Also a band that plays a lot of flute and people use Jethro Tull and Black Sabbath as comparisons but I find it less appropriate here.
What bothers me is this flute = Jethro Tull or organ = The Doors thing that you keep seeing.
I can't really think of any really good comparisons either. Harmonious rock mixed with psychedelic influences often seems appropriate.

We start in 10 minutes with a collaboration between Jello Biafra and D.O.A, titled "Last Scream of the Missing Neighbors"
Then there will be "The Shaggs - Philosophy of the World".
A band consisting of three unmusical sisters who were more or less forced to make music by their father.
The album was financed by the father and after his death the band broke up.
Some people talk about art but in reality it's just not good.

A lot of flute, which is why the band is often compared to Jethro Tull.
A little live music with an impressive audience
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZF0hz4ff1ZkScout Niblett - It's up to Emma
Good album.
Heard a song for the first time on Monday this week and have worked through the entire discography since then.
Very minimalistic with a few exceptions. A voice and some strumming on the guitar. Often there are some drums and very rarely several instruments.
It's up to Emma is the most recent album and the only one that doesn't fit the description above. A real, proper, real indie rock album.
If you would like to talk to the lady, you can do so.

Good album.
A decent punk/hard rock band.
As everyone knows, every self-respecting band needs an album named after the band.
Now the title of the album here isn't actually "The Bronx (III)", but simply "The Bronx". Just like the two albums before and another after.
In between, the band has also released 3 albums that are heavily oriented toward mariachi. The titles are "Mariachi El Bronx", "Mariachi El Bronx" and "Mariachi El Bronx".
So what we're dealing with here is a band that obviously has a lot of self respect. Rightly so.

Spontaneus Therion-stream live, a swedish Symphonic Metal-Band, they did it though before it was cool and then uncool again. The thing with Therion is that no two albums are alike. Their old stuff, which is barely in the stream, are plain Black Metal (Of Darkness, Beyond Sanctorum, Ho Drakon Ho Megas), from the mid-90s there were melodic influences (Lepaca Kliffoth, Theli, Vovin, Deggial), first with orchestras and choirs, and later almost like regular Power Metal (Secret of the Runes, Lemuria/Sirius B, Gothic Kabbalah). I didn't really like most of their newer stuff like Sitra Ahra und Beloved Antichtist, their latest work Leviathan was better in my opinion.

I was finally able to get my hands on the Big Finish Judge Dredd radioplays in an adequate quality.
I am thinking of streaming one or two episodes.
Because they're all in english, I am writing this here to gauge general interest.
So, is anyone interested in a Judge Dredd audio drama stream?
No.18323
Today we successfully got a decent video stream wörking (bitrate 3000-4000ish) over our Icecast-radioserver with OBS as client. Everyone who has a streaming account can try this, no extra configuration on server side needed. The stream will show normally in Icecast and will be recognized by BOT Erna and pushed to the radio Discord as usual, but you can't watch in your browser, because it likely can't handle the format. I heard it's possible if webm is used instead of mpegts, but until now I couldn't find a working setup for that. For watching you'll need for example VLC, which you can feed with the xspf file that Icecast provides. The settings in the picture worked well earlier. Rad fields are mandatory as far as we know, in green fields you can put whatever works for you. Of course you'll need at least semi-decent bandwidth on your side to even attempt videostreaming.
OBS Studio:
https://obsproject.com/download - important: After adjusting the settings, you have to click "Start Recording", not "Start Streaming". Don't ask me why. Please be careful with what you stream, I recommend "Window Capture" instead of "Display Capture", and then choose the correct window. That way you won't accidentally stream your desktop, where your name, address, banking PIN and dick pic collection will be visible. For your Copy/Paste convenience:
File path or URL: icecast://yourmount:yourpass@radio.ernstchan.top:80/yourmount
Muxer settings: content_type=video/m2ts tls=0
Documentations or video games come to mind as likely options. Since there will be a radio festival in the not so far future, maybe Ernst is interested in preparing a video stream for that occasion? An idea we had earlier was that we put a few hours away from prime time aside for video experiments, and a few Ernsts each get 30 minutes or so to stream their favourite games while commenting live. Brings back memories of the EC roguelike streaming club. Yes, that actually was a thing.
For obvious reasons under these circumstances the public stream has been disabled until further notice.

Gogol Bordello - Gypsy Punks Underdog World Strike

He serves as an ideological influence for the band because he "smuggled" Ukrainian culture into Russian society, which Gogol Bordello intends to do with Romani/East-European music in the English-speaking world.
"Bordello", in Italian, refers to a brothel or a "gentleman's club". The band was originally titled Hütz and the Béla Bartóks, but Eugene Hütz says that they decided to change the name because "nobody knows who the hell Béla Bartók is in the United States."

Understanding Comics (finally, that took me a while)
My friend Dahmer (very good)
Prophet 1, not sure if I continue, Funny thing: Prophet is a member of the youngbloods. Early image universe. But Prophet was uhm... asleep I guess? For a looong time and now weird future.
Finished Moonray 1 too. Also Graham. I fucking loved King City. You should check it out but the other stuff Im reading isn't as good imo.
Ordered Siktc 7 & 8. Looking forward to that.
Also thinking about finishing east of west. Got 6 tpb and I really liked it but kinda forgot about it.

>>20374Nice mix. I've basically been reading one trade or run a week. The best part of the week tbh. Everything else is work and sleep. Last one was
4 Kids Walk into a Bank. Great, until the ending, but won't spoil it.
Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron was seriously messed up. Want to read
East of West, but the length is intimidating. Can't finish that on a weekend.

This weeks winner is "Natural Child - Okey Dokey"
Good album. A bit more "trippy" than most of the band's other stuff.
New to the poll
Shilpa Ray - Last Year's Savage
We just had an album with her. It was a good album.
A bit of nice pop rock with a strong voice.
