Hello, yes, I totally am the original Weekly Album Stream streamer. Today, we listen to Foyer des Arts - Die Unfähigkeit zu Frühstücken.
Good album.
The album was released in 1986, a few years after the Neue Deutsche Welle fell out of fashion. It was finished earlier thouch, but Foyer des Arts couldn't release it, because their label said it was too experimental or something, but their contract said they couldn't release it anywhere else, so as soon as their contract expired, they released it on some indie label. But it was way too late, since the NDW movement by then was long dead, buried by a flood of low quality imitators - lots of them way more popular today than Foyer des Arts. If I was in their shoes, I'd be really butthurt about this.
Album starts at 17:00UTC, pre-stream starts now-ish.

"Dark Cabaret, also called Cabaret Noir, is a collective term for bands that blend the aesthetics of decadence from the Weimar Republic era, as well as elements of cabaret, burlesque, and vaudeville theater, with the attitude and style of punk, indie rock, folk, metal, gothic, and death rock."

No.24237
On Friday at 17:00UTC ErnstTV will make a comeback. This is possible thanks to the discovery that with OBS you can stream content at low bitrates, which are barely higher than your usual audio stream. The unconfirmed assumption is that multiple listeners/viewers at low bitrates will have fewer problems than a few viewers at high bitrates, although the overall load would be roughly the same. It is possible that individual connections are throttled under high load. This would explain why 10 radio listeners with around 200kbps each never have any significant hiccups, but a single viewer in a video stream with 2000kbps in some cases has so many problems that it is basically impossible to watch.
The stream will probably last nearly an hour, there will be games, and a little demonstration of OBS' capabilities. The bitrate will be so ridiculously low that I would have said a week ago that it could never work. I recorded all the stuff locally during my experiments, it all looks relatively good, and in theory what you record is identical to what you stream. In theory. Ernst is interested in comments, especially with regard to hiccups and general video quality. Remember that you need a player that can handle mpegts format and xspf files, for example VLC. Browsers usually do not support this.
Of course, it could be that the cause was something completely different and the whole thing will go horribly wrong. But then you'd want to watch it all the more, wouldn't you?

After the Weekly Album Stream, there will be another ErnstTV test. Thanks to the switch from mpegts to matroska/mkv, video streams can now also be watched directly in the browser. The following will happen today: Ernst will be streaming Slay the Spire for a while, commenting and playing music. The audio settings will hopefully be more fitting than last time. The bitrate will be kept to a minimum again, because we want to test whether low bitrate streaming works without interruptions. So, stream quality won't be great, the aim is to stream at a level that is still acceptable. If you're watching, please provide feedback:
- Can you watch the stream in the browser (control elements available, full screen possible)?
- Can you watch the stream properly in VLC or whatever?
- Was the audio/video quality too poor to watch, or was it tolerable?
- Any stream blackouts?
Some of the links in Icecast (direct link, m3u8) may not work. The front page integration on EC has also not yet been adjusted. For now, it is important that browser and VLC work. The video stream should be displayed directly on the radio home page, pics related:

This weeks winner is "Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Boatman's Call."
Good album. I'd almost say very good.
In the original introduction to the album, I called Nick Cave an emo Tom Waits, and I won't take it back.
Fun fact: Nick Cave runs a website (www.theredhandfiles.com) where you can ask him questions. He reads all the questions himself and regularly answers some of them. It's basically what everyone else is doing these days in the form of Reddit AMAs, but he's been doing it with effort and for years.
"The Red Hand Files has no moderator, and it is not monetized, and I am the only one who has access to the questions that sit patiently waiting to be answered. Thank you all for being a part of what has become, at least for me, a life-changing, soul-enriching exercise in commonality and togetherness."
As he himself writes. A nice project.

Ketzerfetzer777 here.
Since we now have a death date (unless someone able wants to take over as Ernstadmin; the Ketzerfetzer is sadly not a good informatician), the Ketzerfetzer wants to thank Iwan, the radio and all loyal listeners (and the one viewer who probably was also Iwan), and especially everyone participating in the Ernstalbum. Anyone who makes OC is one of the cool kids.
Now for my actual concern: Because of real life shenanigans the Ketzerfetzer will not be around almost the entirety of the next week; since I really do want to do some farewell streams, those will be held this week, possibly until sunday. One each day, and if it does work out, another one next weekend, maybe.
And because it's so much different stuff, there won't be any actual announcements in the usual fashion, but only this one announcement.
So, what has the Ketzerfetzer planned?
Each day of this week, if possible, in the evening (17-18 UTC) there will be a stream.
Topics so far are:
Novelty music with Flight of the Conchords & Die Doofen
Grrrl Power with Lana Del Rey, Garbage, Katie Melua, or others, but at least female vocals
Nostalgia with My Chemical Romance (both well-known albums)
Solefald - Viking-Post-Metal with a red and a black album
Electric Six - Fire, Switzerland, Mustang, and it Ernst feels like it, some more
Maybe there will be some new ideas, and if not, I will find something for musical shitposting.
A first impromptu stream will be held at 18 UTC (i.e. in less than 15 minutes), maybe some soundtrack, or Kataklysm. Let's see.

Now for a musician Ernst really appreciates.
Most people who know Jesse Stewart probably do so from that short video of him singing "Cold Beer", with a passion that won't let anyone be unaffected.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEvQOPUHGH8The whole thing apparently also blew up into a kind of internet phenomenon and apparently he could even make some money through his youtube channel.
He even released an album, which Ernst owns physically and which you, dear listener, are enjoying right now.
Unfortunately Jesse also was a junkie and drugged himself to death some years ago, possibly even due to not being able to handle the sudden fame.

Reminder: If you don't want to have your existing radio account migrated to the new krautchan.org-radio (which is under construction at the moment, fingers crossed!), then please start a stream with the title "no migration" in the next days. Your account only contains your mountpoint and a randomly generated passwort, so no confidental data.
Anyone who didn't stream in the last 12 months won't be migrated though, to clean up the cluttered streamer list. See also
