>and I don't think the gym is a loser friendly place.
In my opinion: It is. You have your average guys doing their fitness routines, and of course the dudebros, but you also have plenty of people who recognized something is off in their lives, and they try to work on it. I think doing something for your body is never a loser move. While it won't magically fix social anxiety or career problems, it at least shows that you're trying to improve. I also found that the iron is a big equalizer. It doesn't matter who you are, whether you're big or small, popular or not. People in the gym share the pain of working out, it's a brotherhood of suffering.

It can take a bit of time to overcome some social anxiety when going to the gym, but it can also be quite motivating to have people around you. Most people will be quite willing to help you out but you can also just prepare by watching yt vids on how to do different exercises to take off some of the pressure when you use some machine or try an exercise you haven't done before. Anyways, hope you enjoy going to the gym!

I have been in two gyms that also provide dance classes that I attend. I rarely see buff shredded gym sharks in the locker rooms there at all. It's mostly unfit or rather fit people yet miles away from the influencer physiques which does not mean people there are unattractive or anything.
You might want to avoid places/times with lots of teenagers, though. They might feel the need to be cool and laugh about other people. The gyms I go to I don't see those anyway, though.

Depends on the gym in my opinion. I have also been to two different ones, one was mostly normies, also lots of courses, aerobics and shiet. The other one was more of an MMA club with attached gym, this one had mostly buff guys with haircuts in the milimeter range, and lots of tattoos. Not as bad as one would think though, the buff guys are either bros and really helpful, or they are a walking mess of insecurities themselves. But they never annoyed me in any way.
>You might want to avoid places/times with lots of teenagers, though.
This, absolutely. They want to prove their ego, talk too loudly about the last party and brag about chicks they scored with, and tend to hog the bench press forever. Those are also the only ones who would make fun of lesser built guys.

Went running on Saturday again. Still no sub-hour time, but I managed to startle a woman so much she jumped. At least she took it with humor, heard her say something like "I really need to visit an ear doctor". I really don't know why it's always women who seem to be completely oblivious of their surroundings. And this is not the first time something like this has happened (like when I was approaching a couple walking on the pavement from behind. Hard rubber soles on stone. The man pulled his wife towards him to make room for me because she just didn't notice me coming).
You would think between the loud stomping of my feet, the jingling of the keys around my neck and the heavy breathing one would hear me from far enough to not be startled, and because she was alone I didn't bother yelling something like COMING THROUGH which I normally do when groups of people are clogging the entire width of the path. Oh, and while I was approaching she actually turned back several times, so I assumed she had seen me.
Apart from that, there was surprisingly little traffic overall, especially since it was such a nice day. Running is really not fun though, I don't think I could ever work up the will to run a marathon.

Still going for my every-other-day 5k. Eventually something MUST happen, and I don't care if I get sick or become fit again, but this dumb limbo of "I have this weird feeling in my head, but nothing comes from it" is way more irritating.

I sometimes suddenly have painful foot cramps while lying in bed half asleep. It's always the same side. It makes me jolt up and push all my weight onto that foot to force the foot's insides back to normal to make the pain go away. That said, do you check your electrolyte intake? Cramps are a common symptom of some kind of salt deficiency.

 No.22476

It can be a whole lot of things. I know magnesium makes my cramps instantly go away from experience. I also heard lactic acid tend to be produced slower and slower the more your body is used to exercise. Some sport bro even recommended me to just have a bottle of citrus with me at the pool.
It usually strikes at my calves. As a teenager, I wanted to impress a crush with my relatively good swimming skills at the time; she ended up fishing me out of the pool as I was drowning.

Definitely doesn't apply to me.

With me it's calf or foot. For unrelated reasons (don't like public pools and hardly ever travel anymore), I've hardly been in water during the last 25 years. When I did, I made sure to be in view of other people.

The weather has warmed, and the snow has melted. Today I ran for the first time since November. Completed a 5k. I was surprised by how little conditioning I have lost. My pace is not what it was, but my lungs and legs held up. One benefit of having a job which keeps me on my feet. I can survive Winter captivity without significant deterioration.

 No.22856

For some reason I don't feel like running at the moment.
Something happened last week; I was going for another 10k, but to make it less boring I went into the other direction. It was not even five minutes and I was already not feeling it anymore. I was also feeling "heavier" than usual and it took me indeed 5 minutes more than usual, which is a lot for a 10k, but I also hated every single second of it.
And ever since I felt the same way anytime I went running, and I can't even tell why. If you remember my posts, I never actually did go running because I enjoyed it, but at least it was bearable, but at the moment it only feels like a chore.
And I am surprised by how quickly running sessions come. I go every other day, and today was one and I thought "huh, didn't I already go yesterday? No, it was actually on monday. And now I have to go AGAIN" instead of thinking "I can do sports again".
Maybe I should do something else under the week and only do a single 10k on the weekends, that should still be enough.

 No.23319

It almost feels like a dream, but the facts don't lie. I've gone 16 whole days without binge eating and without exceeding the 2000 calorie limit that I set for myself as part of my billionth weight loss attempt.

This time I somehow didn't relapse even once, which allowed me to go down from 88kg to 85 kg in these two weeks. Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel after all.

P.S. My mood also got better, or at least a lot more stable ever since I stopped binge eating ultraprocessed trash masquerading as food.

Ernst now has a pullup bar. Together with his dumbbells, he can now put together a solid workout. Dumbbell deadlifts are awesome, no bully! No heavy weights available, so no beast mode activation for Ernst, but it's enough to stay in shape. Sure beats being untrained by a mile.

I'm running three times a week, between 8 and 12km excluding long runs (>15k for me), and it's a pretty recurring feeling, especially if I run in the evening, where I have less energy, the heada full of what happened during the day, and a non-empty stomach.

There are moments when I really HATE it and even speed up the pace to get home faster. Sometime straight up shouting things like "it really piss me up" if nobody is around.

I just try to be mindful of my feelings and generally feel at least contempt to get outside with the birds, the sun and life bubbling around. I don't have time to think, be bored and worried about my knee during speed work, just to feel like shit, so that's an option too aside taking a week break.

I'm supposed to run a marathon in a few months. I failed to run 30km a few weeks ago. I don't feel ready but I want to try, even if it takes me 5h.

I returned to the gym. First time since November when temperatures dropped and I lost the will to go outside. Whatever. Spring is here and we're back. My priority was reestablishing the habit. Didn't worry about weight or reps. Worked a bit of each muscle group. Except legs. Skipped that but I walked to the gym. That counts for something. Anyway, the good news is that- despite a months-long layoff- I can still bench press my body weight. The bad news? I don't weigh that much.

Having a good mix of cycling and weight training going, nothing excessive, just a basic and consistent routine. Feels pretty good. It's impressive how much even basic weight and stamina training helps in everyday life. Better posture, better breathing, less exhaustion and less stress. Yeah, it's the same for me, although I don't understand it, because in theory the bicep is a weak muscle, while the back musculature, which is more involved with wide grip, should be able to provide more pull. But it seems to be the same for everyone: Narrow/neutral grip allows more reps than wide grip.

I have decided to stop running for a week (at least) because for the past few I always got a weird pain in the arches, mostly left foot, but also sometimes, and less, right foot. I can definitely say it gets worse from running, probably because of the excentric load (I'm a fore-middle-foot runner).
No idea why now, I have been running for a few years with the current shoes on the current course without problems. I was on vacation and was hiking a lot across weird terrain, maybe that did something.
Anyway, I might use this running break to get back into lifting again. Doing a "where do I stand" workout will probably be enough to give me DOMS for a week, so everything should be in order after that.

I had a similar experience while biking when the clip on one foot was ever so slightly misaligned.
Maybe your soles are chaffed of unsymmetrical?
Or the shoe laces just got loose on one side?
When showering you can finish with hot-cold-hot-cold changes on your feet, this can accelerate regeneration due to an increase in blood flow.

I myself really enjoy walking to work.
Already had better Mercedes F(eet) class commutes in other jobs, when both ways was nicely done via rural foot paths towards the outside of the city for 30 minutes each.
Right now one way is about an hour right into the city center and my boss pays for the bus ticket, so on my way home I take the sour pill and squeeze myself into this stinking aluminum can with that society that I want to opt-out ASAP.
