i usually prefer DSA over DnD.
Das Schwarze Auge
is there any english phrase for the game? only ever heard about it in german feels like it gives a lot more freedom and is less focused on combat. DnD feels a lot like a Hack 'n Slay instead of an RPG.
But ultimately it is the DM and group who are deciding how the game is played, less so the actual rules.
e.g. a girl---friend of mine was thinking about fulfilling the role of a master, but wouldn't allow Ernst to play his Schelmin
knave / prankster / imp ?. she even prepared some "secret" character trades for Ernst's new character, a female dwarf rocking the most handsome full-beard in dwarfen history.
a dragon baby pet; would have been important for the campaign :3maybe Ernst should ask again. interest was there and one of those interested in playing would have a little moar time now, since his now ex-gf wasn't rly in tabletop stuff.
welp, boyfriend of master-girl-friend isn't tooo much into such things as well, but would prolly join - even if he ends up deciding to kamikaze his character relatively early in the campaign... group would prolly be of size 5-8. depending of who ends up joining.
and afaik ~3 of those i currently have in mind already play in a different group :/most of the time, lately, we played more short-term tabletop-likes. for example werewolves, secret hitler, chinese whispers extreme,... or some new tabletop i've never heard of before but someone bought it on the last games-con
Spielemesse.
i might still have a *.pdf of a DSA rulebook somewhere, if i didn't end up deleting it or have forgotten to copy over when switching hardware...
>>8857depends. do you want a noble heritage? that usually gives a decent bag of starting coins. also, what kind of mental illness do you have/want? that usually is a decent nerf to balance out some other stronger character traits.
> lacking formal educationis a big nerf, thou. really limits your character selection; no mage, knight or archer. maybe a bard? or you could put the points you enabled with those nerfs into pure physical poweress and be like troll-barbarian or something. some races come with build-in mental illness anyway. so that could fit you as well. depending on race, bags of money might become a problem, thou. not every character or race is interested in money. my Schelmin, for example, had a powerful mage spell, that could *puff* gems and precious metals out of existence. Schelms could only use magery if they found it funny, thou. e.g. if you are rocking a golden armor - *puff* suddenly you stand naked in the middle of the street. my Schelmin was rly into Schadenfreude... so if you proudly present your coins... i might just *puff* them away. nearly died a few times because of that. but Schelms are very athletic - and that even works if you run away and can't use magery.
if you are not too sure about what character traits you want, you can just roll some dice as well.
